A top-sealing damper sits at the very top of your chimney flue, creating an airtight seal when your fireplace isn't in use. Unlike traditional throat dampers, which sit just above the firebox and often warp or corrode over time, top-sealing dampers lock out cold air, moisture, animals, and debris - giving your home year-round protection and improved energy efficiency.

Absolutely. A cracked, deteriorated, or failing chimney liner is one of the most serious chimney repairs we handle, and it's not something that should be left unaddressed. The liner is one of your chimney's first lines of defense, responsible for safely containing and directing combustion gases, heat, and byproducts out of your home.
Signs that your liner may need repair or replacement include visible cracking or spalling inside the flue, white staining on exterior brickwork, smoke backdrafting into the home, unusual odors, or a recent chimney fire. Older clay tile liners are especially prone to damage as the tiles expand and contract with repeated heating and cooling cycles over the years.
We begin with a thorough evaluation to assess the full condition of the existing liner. Depending on what we find, we may be able to repair isolated sections of a clay tile liner, or we may recommend a full relining of the flue using a stainless steel liner or cast-in-place liner system.
Water intrusion is one of the leading causes of chimney deterioration and long-term structural damage, and the tricky part is that moisture can enter through several different points, which means identifying the true source requires a careful, systematic inspection rather than a quick visual glance.
The most common entry points we find include a cracked or improperly sloped chimney crown, failed or improperly installed flashing where the chimney meets the roofline, deteriorated mortar joints between bricks, a missing or incorrectly sized chimney cap, and porous or spalled brickwork that absorbs moisture directly. In some cases, what appears to be a chimney leak is actually condensation forming inside the flue due to venting issues - another reason proper diagnosis matters.
Once we've pinpointed the entry point or points, we repair the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms. We don't believe in patchwork fixes - our goal is to stop the water for good and protect the integrity of your chimney and your home's interior from ongoing moisture damage.
Absolutely. Masonry repair is one of our core areas of expertise, and it's work that genuinely pays off when caught early. Brick, mortar, and concrete are all porous materials that are constantly exposed to freeze-thaw cycles, rain, wind, and temperature extremes. Over time, this leads to crumbling or missing mortar joints, cracked or spalled bricks, and damaged chimney crowns, all of which create openings for water to penetrate the chimney structure.
The chimney crown is especially vulnerable. When it cracks, water flows directly into the chimney chase, accelerating deterioration of the liner, the firebox, and the surrounding masonry. Similarly, deteriorated mortar joints allow moisture to wick deep into the brick structure, where it freezes and expands during cold weather, causing progressively worse cracking and spalling over time.
We repair deteriorated brickwork and can rebuild or recast the crown. Catching these issues early (before water has had years to work its way deeper into the structure) can mean the difference between a straightforward repair and a major, costly rebuild.
We take a diagnostic approach to every job, evaluating the entire chimney system thoroughly before recommending any work. We look at the flue, the liner, the firebox, the damper, the crown, the flashing, the cap, and the exterior masonry to build a complete picture of what's going on and, just as importantly, why it's happening. Surface symptoms don't always point to the most obvious cause, and misdiagnosing the root issue is how homeowners end up paying for repairs that don't actually solve the problem.
We walk you through everything we find, explain what needs to be addressed immediately for safety reasons, what should be monitored and addressed soon, and what is simply cosmetic or low-priority. We believe you deserve a clear, honest explanation of your chimney's condition - not a pressure pitch designed to maximize the scope of work. Our technicians are trained to distinguish between what is genuinely necessary and what can wait.
We prioritize safety on every job, and we continuously invest in training and education to stay on top of industry standards.
We hold memberships and affiliations with the NCSG, NY State Chimney Sweep Guild, NFPA, and BBB.
